This can only be checked or determine through blood
test in medical laboratories or hospitals. Once detected to have this disease,
a patient may be asked to undergo a liver biopsy to check to what extent the
damage done to the liver by the disease. As pre-marital sex is rampant these
days the possibility of acquiring this disease through this way is high. If the
disease is causing liver failure already, the need for a liver transplant will
arise and a liver donor will be needed. Relatives and family members are the
first candidate for liver donors.
There isn’t always the need or necessity for a
treatment for hepatitis C, especially if there are only small abnormalities
diagnosed in your liver and if the problem won’t progress to any major liver
problem risk, then there is no need for extensive treatments. There will be
follow-up blood test that your doctor may recommend to check-up on your liver’s
condition.
There are several treatments for hepatitis C; there
are antiviral medications that would be used to clear the body with the
hepatitis C virus, it can be a combination of drugs to be taken for a couple of
weeks. There are other treatments such as Alpha Interferon and Ribavirin. This
is a treatment regimen for 24-48 weeks. There are treatments also using
combination therapies. But be wary that this treatment has side effects. If the
problem is extensive that it is causing liver failure, this is the time that
the need for a transplant should be considered. After surgery, the need for
continue medication is recommended by the physician. There will be need to have
a vaccination against other Hepatitis disease such as Hepatitis A and Hepatitis
B. These are separate diseases from Hepatitis C but all three are infecting the
liver.
